The Paul Sykes Big Band is a seventeen piece swing ensemble performing both concerts and dances recreating the wonderful sounds and atmosphere of the big band era.
Renowned for it’s exciting blend of high octane Big Band Swing and Classic Dance Music, the bands repertoire ranges from the wartime million sellers of the legendary Glenn Miller through the era of the great Duke Ellington and Count Basie Orchestras, to the hit songs of Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Doris Day. Under the leadership of trombonist Paul Sykes, the band - previously known as the Ron Young Orchestra - have built up a keen following since it started life as a rehearsal band in 1979.
Paul's professional career as a freelance trombonist has taken him all over the world. He has performed for P&O, Johnny Howard, Ray McVay, Ross Mitchell, The Pasadena Roof Orchestra, The New Squadronaires, Matt Munro Junior. West End shows Grease, Ragtime and Hair. In addition Paul has also worked on many touring shows including Anything Goes, Pirates of Penzance, the Rat Pack and the Blues Brothers.
Paul is also the trombonist with the Piccadilly Dance Orchestra.
